Roberto De Zerbi has vowed that he will be Tottenham's head coach next season, even if he is unable to turn the club's fortunes around, and they are relegated. 

De Zerbi was appointed as Igor Tudor's successor on Tuesday following a five-game winless run in the Premier League (D1 L4), leaving them just above the relegation zone. 

The Italian has put pen to paper on a long-term contract, which is reportedly a five-year deal, despite being handed a 27.5% chance of going down by the Opta supercomputer.

Spurs have not won any of their last 13 league matches (D5 L8), equalling their second-longest winless run in league competition in their history (also 13 in November 1912). 

De Zerbi's first game in charge comes away to Sunderland on April 12, and the 46-year-old believes the quality within the squad have what it takes to turn things around. 

"I watched a lot of games, especially in the last period. I know the players very well. It's a difficult moment for everyone at Tottenham," De Zerbi said.

"I think we have the right qualities to come out of this moment. 

"I believe in the players. I think we have to remember who we are and who the players are because we have very big players and have to work on their confidence in themselves.

"I accepted this challenge because I have great confidence in the players. The style and history of Tottenham is a very clear type of play.

"After this part of the season, I think we can create a great future. I signed a five-year contract because it is a big challenge.

"I will be the Tottenham coach next season, no matter what."

Spurs still searching for their first Premier League win of 2026 (D5 L8). In addition, their 30 points from 31 Premier League games this season is their joint-lowest return after 31 games of any league campaign, along with 1914-15, accounting for 3pts/win all-time.

De Zerbi does, however, have previous experience in the Premier League with Brighton, though he left the club after just under two seasons in charge with a win rate of 37.1% (won 26 of 70 games in all competitions).
