PSG deserving Champions League winners, says Kvaratskhelia
Paris Saint-Germain successfully defended their Champions League crown with a penalty shoot-out victory over Arsenal in Budapest.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia believes Paris Saint-Germain were more than worthy winners of the Champions League for the second year in a row.
PSG became only the second team in the Champions League era to win back-to-back titles, after Real Madrid between 2016 and 2018, after a 4-3 penalty shoot-out victory over Arsenal.
Luis Enrique's side came from behind following Kai Havertz's sixth-minute opener, with Ousmane Dembele equalising from the penalty spot in the second half.
PSG equalled the record for most goals scored in a single edition of the European Cup/Champions League, with their 45 drawing level with Barcelona's total in 1999-2000.
However, they could easily have had more, with the French champions having had 21 shots, worth an accumulative 1.8 expected goals (xG) overall, as they enjoyed 75% possession at the Puskas Arena.
"It's amazing, really. The emotions I cannot describe," Kvaratskhelia said, as quoted by BBC Sport.
"I am really proud I'm part of this team. We had a difficult season, but we were capable. We are back-to-back champions.
"In the penalties, you need luck, but you also have to work on them, and we did it. We deserved to win, I think, because we had many chances to score."
PSG are only the third side to win both their league title and the European Cup/Champions League in back-to-back seasons, after Real Madrid (1956-57/1957-58) and Ajax (1971-72/1972-73).
They are also the first French team ever to win the European Cup/Champions League in consecutive editions.
"It's a dream come true, it's difficult," Goncalo Ramos told TNT Sports.
"We have a lot of personality, and we show we are ready."
On taking the first penalty of the game, Ramos added: "I love these types of moments, I'm a striker, and I'm always ready to take the penalty.
"I want to be there in the big moments. Everybody believes in each other, and every player can help. We are confident in every player."
Only Carlo Ancelotti (five) has now won more European Cup/Champions League trophies than Luis Enrique (three).
The Spaniard also has the highest win percentage of any manager with 50+ games in the competition's history (63.3%).
"It's not easy to do it back-to-back, but we did," Achraf Hakimi said, as quoted by BBC Sport.
"I say every time the same, the coach is the big voice of the club. We follow him, we trust in him. Since day one, he told us the team is more important than the player.
"We are really happy to have him. We have created not just a team but a family."
