Liverpool clinched their second Premier League title with four games to spare on Sunday, routing Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 at Anfield to finish the job in style.

Arne Slot's Reds needed just one point from their final five games of the season following Arsenal's 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace on Wednesday, and they wasted no time in making things official.

Dominic Solanke's 12th-minute header threatened to spoil the party on Merseyside, but any such concerns were swept aside in quick time as Liverpool responded brilliantly.

Luis Diaz tucked Dominik Szoboszlai's right-wing centre home to make it 1-1 in the 16th minute, with the goal initially disallowed for offside but given following a VAR check.

Liverpool were ahead eight minutes later as Alexis Mac Allister beat Guglielmo Vicario with a 20-yard blockbuster on his weaker left foot, after a ferocious press forced Spurs to give up possession near the corner of the box.

And Liverpool's title triumph was beyond all doubt in the 34th minute, as Cody Gakpo found the bottom-left corner following Tottenham's abject failure to clear a set-piece. 

Liverpool should have had a fourth early in the second half when Gakpo looked to pass to Salah rather than finish past Vicario, but the brilliant Egyptian got in on the act in the 63rd minute, steering a reverse shot into the bottom-right corner on the counter-attack.

The scoring was complete six minutes later as Trent Alexander-Arnold's cross was touched over the line by Destiny Udogie with Salah lurking behind him, capping a dream day for Liverpool.

The full-time whistle sparked memorable scenes as Liverpool stretched their lead at the summit to an unassailable 15 points with only 12 to play for.

Spurs, meanwhile, stay 16th after another demoralising loss, with a Europa League semi-final tie against Bodo/Glimt set to define their season.

Data debrief: Liverpool back on their perch

When the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson took over as Manchester United boss, he pledged to "knock Liverpool off their perch".

When Ferguson departed Old Trafford, United had 20 English top-flight titles to Liverpool's 18, but Slot has now dragged the Merseyside giants level with their great rivals, seven titles clear of third-placed Arsenal.

After coming through an early scare, Liverpool were utterly dominant against a lifeless Tottenham team.

They have now scored five or more goals in four different Premier League games against Spurs, including a 6-3 win in December's reverse fixture. That is their joint-most against any opponent in the competition, also doing so four times against Norwich City and Watford.

While Udogie's own goal capped the scoring, the crowning moment came when Salah netted his 28th Premier League goal of the season.

He is now just one goal involvement shy of the single-season record, held jointly by Andy Cole (for Newcastle United in 1993-94) and Alan Shearer (for Blackburn Rovers in 1994-95), both of whom managed 47 combined goals and assists in 42-game campaigns.

Spurs, meanwhile, have already lost 19 Premier League games this season, their joint-most in any campaign alongside 1993-94 and 2003-04.
