Liam Rosenior has taken accountability for Chelsea's 3-0 loss to Manchester City, insisting his side will regain their confidence.

Marc Cucurella had a first-half goal disallowed for offside, but having held their own against City before the break, they capitulated after it.

Nico O'Reilly and Marc Guehi scored within the first 12 minutes of the second half before Jeremy Doku added a third after catching Moises Caicedo in possession.

Having been beaten 3-0 by Everton before the international break, Chelsea have now lost back-to-back Premier League games by three or more goals for the first time since February 2018.

And, the Blues have lost five of their last six games in all competitions (W1 v Port Vale), their most defeats in as short a spell since May 2023 under Frank Lampard.

"Not good enough in the second half. We didn't start well," he told Sky Sports.

"Had moments to clear the box and keep the ball, but we didn't. They were camped in our half for the first five minutes, and then we concede a goal.

"Then it's a similar story for the past month now in terms of dealing with setbacks.

"I am accountable. This is a group. It's something we need to improve. It starts with your habits and values. I can't say there was a lack of effort.

"But there was a lack of confidence in the second half. We have to improve. We are in a difficult place at the moment, and we have got another huge game next week [at home to Manchester United]."

Chelsea were without Enzo Fernandez for the second game running, following his suggestions that he could leave the club after the World Cup, while hinting he would like to join Real Madrid.

Though he apologised following the FA Cup clash with Port Vale, Fernandez was not reinstated to the squad, and Rosenior, who saw his side have just 36.3% possession, admitted he was a big miss.

"Any team will miss Enzo," he added. "Myself, backed by the leadership group and sporting directors, made a decision for the long-term of the club.

"There's nothing personal with Enzo. He will be back with the group on Tuesday. He is a top, top player and a really good guy. Really looking forward to having him back."

Chelsea remain winless in each of their last 10 Premier League meeting with City (D3 L7), their longest current streak without victory against an opponent in the competition.

While they matched the visitors in the first half, Chelsea ultimately finished with just three of their 18 shots on target after they failed to take their chances.

The Blues have failed to score in any of their last four defeats, but with four points separating them from fifth-place Liverpool, defender Jorrel Hato knows they must improve, and soon.

"First half was good from both sides. We had some chances, and they too. But once we conceded, our levels dropped, and in the end, it was not enough," he told Sky Sports.

"Even the start of the second half wasn't good. They had three or four chances in the first five minutes. The way we came out of the dressing room was not good already.

"It's hard to tell why. This is not enough for us, a club like Chelsea. It's not what we need this season. We have to reach the Champions League. It needs to be better.

"We still have a chance. It has to be better in the next six games. We have to improve. Forget this one quickly and onto next week.

"If you play a first half like that, you can't go out of the dressing room for a second half like that. It's hard to say what it is. I don't know."
