Brentford aim to 'keep pushing' after strong start

Keith Andrews insists Brentford have no plans to slow down as they aim to "keep pushing" after a fine season last term.

Brentford have started this season off superbly, following up a 3-0 win over Tottenham in their opening Premier League fixture with a 6-1 thrashing of Birmingham City in the EFL Cup.

The Bees finished ninth last season, as first-year boss Andrews impressed after taking over from Thomas Frank.

Brentford travel to Leeds on Sunday, with the Whites having also picked up two wins from their first two games of the season, both against Nottingham Forest.

Asked about Brentford's aims for the season, Andrews said: "Last year was a season of stabilisation, of regrouping and trying to build a new team and new dynamics, trust.

"I think we got there and this season's slightly different. We've got a really good foundation in place, we've added some really good players into the equation that give us that depth to be able to make changes and freshen things and look after players, but doesn't change the outlook to keep pushing.

"We're in a good place. The boys are feeling really confident, enjoying the football, enjoying being together, so we will hopefully keep that going."

Brentford have spent big this week to bring in left-back El Hadji Malick Diouf from West Ham.

Leeds boss Daniel Farke, meanwhile, feels facing Brentford is one of the toughest fixtures in the Premier League right now.

"For me, one of the most complicated tasks you can have right now," Farke said.

"Keith is doing a fantastic job there and then if you analyse not just their last season, but also what they have done in the last weeks, it's more than impressive.

"We need to be at our very best in order to control this moment because in the last weeks no other team were able to find a solution, how to stop them from scoring goals and winning games.

"We are in a good, good mood, a good position right now and also in a good moment after two impressive wins. But they are the standout team so far and we have to be at our very best to make sure that we have a chance also to win the points."

Leeds United - Harry Wilson

Wilson has scored four Premier League goals against Brentford, with these strikes coming in his last four appearances against the Bees.

It is his joint-most goals against any side in the competition (also four v Spurs).

Brentford - Mamadou Sangare

Sangare averaged 14.2 defensive contributions per 90 for Lens last season, more than anyone else in Ligue 1. He would have bettered any Premier League midfielder for that metric as well in 2025-26.

The midfielder made a fantastic start to life at Brentford in the win over Spurs, grabbing an assist, and he is sure to put in an all-action display at Elland Road.

MATCH PREDICTION: DRAW

Leeds are unbeaten in their last eight home league games against Brentford (W3 D5) since a 1-0 loss in February 2015. Each of the last three have finished level, with the last two ending 0-0.

Four of the six Premier League meetings between Leeds and Brentford have been drawn, with both sides winning once each – Leeds won 2-1 away in May 2022, while Brentford won 5-2 at home the following September.

Leeds last started a league campaign with consecutive wins in 2018-19, when winning their first three Championship matches under Marcelo Bielsa.

Brentford are looking to win their opening two league games in a season for the first time since 2006-07 in League One; they last did so in the top flight back in 1935-36.

Since the start of December 2025, only five teams have won more points in the Premier League than Leeds (39), while only three sides have won more points on home soil than the Whites in that time (24).
