Seattle Sounders v Los Angeles Galaxy: Vanney hopes visitors get 'quick wake-up call'
The Seattle Sounders could extend their unbeaten run in MLS to 10 games when they welcome the Los Angeles Galaxy to Lumen Field.
Los Angeles Galaxy head coach Greg Vanney hopes his side's defeat to Sporting Kansas City last time out serves as a "quick wake-up call".
The Galaxy lost 3-1 to Sporting KC on Wednesday; both of Kansas City's MLS wins this season have come against the Galaxy.
The defeat saw the Galaxy's brief three-game unbeaten run come to an end (W2 D1), leaving them 11th in the Western Conference.
Up next for the Galaxy is a trip to the Seattle Sounders, and Vanney wants to see an appropriate response from his side.
"We'll see how much momentum we lost because really it will be determined by how we respond in the grand scheme of things, if we can get back on track," said Vanney.
"We certainly lost some momentum. The level at which I felt like we'd been competing and playing the last few games wasn't the level that we matched.
"And so, hopefully, now we get a little bit of a quick wake-up call and say we've got to shake out of it, and we've got to show up because we've got a tough game here, and we want to finish this first part of the season as strong as possible."
Seattle, meanwhile, are third in the West after a 3-2 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday.
The Sounders could move up to top spot in the conference if they win their final two games before the World Cup break, and striker Jesus Ferreira is treating those matches as finals.
"We’re going in with the mentality that these [last few games] are finals because then we have a break," said Ferreira.
"We have to end the [first part of] the season on a high note."
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Seattle Sounders – Osaze De Rosario
De Rosario scored the game-winning header in the 89th minute against San Jose on Wednesday.
It was the latest game-winning goal by a Sounders player since Albert Rusnak converted a penalty three minutes into stoppage time against the Chicago Fire on June 30, 2024.
Los Angeles Galaxy – Gabriel Pec
Pec has scored three goals in his last two matches, including scoring the Galaxy’s lone goal in their defeat at Kansas City.
This is the first time Pec has scored in consecutive regular-season appearances since a five-match stretch in September and October 2024.
MATCH PREDICTION – SEATTLE SOUNDERS WIN
Seattle are unbeaten in 11 straight home matches against LA Galaxy across all competitions (W6 D5).
It is tied for the longest winless streak by the Galaxy in road games against any opponent, with 11-game droughts against the New York Red Bulls (2001-08) and Kansas City (2008-18).
Seattle have also gone unbeaten in nine straight regular-season matches (W6 D3) for the first time in a single season since ending the 2023 season with nine straight (W4 D5).
The Sounders have not had a longer single-season run since matching the club record with 13 straight from April to July 2021.
LA Galaxy followed up a 2-1 win at Atlanta United with a 3-1 loss to Kansas City. The Galaxy have both scored and conceded in each of their last 11 matches, the second-longest such streak in club history (14 straight in 2023-24).
