Bayer Leverkusen must "attack the table" as they aim to snatch qualification for the Champions League, so says Kasper Hjulmand.

Leverkusen's European hopes for this season were ended by Arsenal last month.

They have drawn their last three Bundesliga matches, leaving them in sixth place in the standings with seven matches remaining.

Leverkusen also face Bayern Munich in the DFB-Pokal semi-finals later in April.

And ahead of Saturday's meeting with struggling Wolfsburg, Hjulmand laid out the plan of attack.

"Of course, we assessed and reflected on the past weeks and games during the international break," said Hjulmand.

"Every game is hugely important. Our goal for the run-in is clear: We want to attack and attack the table."

Wolfsburg sit 17th, though Hjulmand feels their performances have merited better results.

"Of course, they’ve had problems this season, but they often play better than their position in the table currently suggests," he added.

Bayer Leverkusen - Patrik Schick

Schick has played against 25 different clubs in the Bundesliga and scored against 24 of them, with Wolfsburg being the only exception (six matches).

Against Heidenheim, the Czech striker scored two headed goals, now standing at 73 Bundesliga goals for Leverkusen – surpassing Herbert Waas (72) and trailing only Ulf Kirsten (182) and Stefan Kiessling (131) in the club's all-time scoring charts.

Wolfsburg - Christian Eriksen

Eriksen leads Wolfsburg for assists in the Bundesliga this term, with six to his name.

However, he only managed to create one chance in their defeat to Werder Bremen last time out, so the Dane will be aiming to wield more influence this time out.

Wolfsburg have gone 19 Bundesliga matches without a clean sheet – they are now in danger of equalling their club record of 20 consecutive matches without a shutout, which they set under Dieter Hecking in 2014.

Leverkusen are one of four Bundesliga teams to have scored in every home match this season.

In their 3-3 draw at Heidenheim, Bayer 04 Leverkusen conceded three set-piece goals in a Bundesliga match for the first time since May 2020 against Wolfsburg.

Overall, Leverkusen have conceded 16 set-piece goals in this Bundesliga season, with only Wolfsburg, Hoffenheim (18 each) and Koln (20) conceding more.

Wolfsburg are winless in their last 10 consecutive Bundesliga matches – only in 1998 (12) and from 2023 to 2024 (11) have they had longer winless streaks in the top-flight.

During this run, they have collected just three of a possible 30 points (D3 L7). Only due to a one-goal better goal difference do Wolfsburg sit above Heidenheim in the table of the second half of the season (Heidenheim: 3 points and 11-23 goals; Wolfsburg 9-20 goals).
