Fenerbahce say Rashford move 'not logical' after turning down Man Utd star
Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce have confirmed they are not in the running to sign out-of-favour Manchester United star Marcus Rashford.
Fenerbahce vice-president Acun Ilicali insists the Turkish club "are not interested" in signing Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford during the January transfer window.
The England international has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford this month after falling out of favour with new United manager Ruben Amorim, who has questioned the player's professionalism on several occasions.
Rashford has not played for the Premier League club since December 12 and Amorim recently said he would rather play 63-year-old goalkeeper coach Jorge Vital than "a player who doesn't give the maximum every day".
And Fenerbahce, who are currently managed by former United boss Jose Mourinho, have ruled themselves out of the race for the 27-year-old's signature.
"Actually, it was in the news that we are interested in him. I think Rashford is a fantastic player, I really like him," Ilicali told Sky Sports.
"But at the end of the day, when you have some players in your team [who play in the same role], it is not logical to get two players in the same position who are much better than other players."
Under Mourinho, Rashford played 125 games and bagged 18 goals for United between August 2016 and December 2018.
He has four goals and an assist from 15 league matches this season, with his last appearance coming as a substitute in a 3-2 defeat to Nottingham Forest last month.
"What I will say is that these types of players need to play, play, play," said Ilicali, who is also the chairman of Championship side Hull City.
"If he comes, then one of our players wouldn't be able to play. When it came in front of us, unfortunately, we said no for this transfer.
"There is nothing that we are interested in him. Of course, there are some rumours that spread. I can say very comfortably that we are not interested, but he is a good player."
Rashford has been at United since he was seven and has won the Europa League, two FA Cups and two EFL Cups with the club.
The January transfer window is set to close on February 3.
