Arteta wants Premier League consistency from Arsenal following Champions League heroics
Arsenal travel to Ipswich Town on Sunday knowing that a win will delay any potential title celebrations for Liverpool.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has said that he and his players can use their victory over Real Madrid in the Champions League to ensure a consistent end to their Premier League campaign.
The Gunners travel to struggling Ipswich Town on Sunday, having beaten the Champions League holders 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu in midweek, sealing a 5-1 aggregate victory and a spot in the semi-final.
But Arsenal are 13 points behind runaway Premier League leaders Liverpool.
A win for the Gunners would mean Liverpool are unable to win the title on Sunday, though should Ipswich, whose survival hopes are fast fading, triumph, then the Reds could get the job done by beating Leicester City.
And Arteta has now demanded consistency in the top flight.
"We celebrated for a short period of time. It was a great evening, we had a lot of family and a lot of happy faces around the club," he told reporters.
"It was a good moment, but immediately you have to switch it up and it's Ipswich in the Premier League.
"It showed we can compete in any context against any opposition. Now the next step is consistency."
Ipswich realistically need a win to stand any chance of staying up.
"I understand where they are at the moment and they're playing at home," said Arteta.
"For us it's a big game, we need to start to win matches in the Premier League to at least maintain the position we are in, and to push into the last few games with strong hope.
"They are a really well-organised team. What Kieran [McKenna] and the staff have done is remarkable. You see every week the amount of issues they give to the opposition so we expect a tough game."
Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna was in no mood to throw in the towel and suggested his players were capable of getting a result despite their league position.
"We believe in ourselves and we believe if we execute every part of our game right then we have a chance and we can compete even with the best," he said.
"If we do all that, and it's our day, then there is a chance we can get it on Sunday."
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Ipswich Town – Liam Delap
Delap comes into this game with two goals in his last three appearances in the Premier League.
The 22-year-old is Ipswich's top scorer this season with 12 league goals, which account for 36.4% of their total goals this season (33), and he is sure to be of interest to bigger clubs over the summer.
Arsenal – Bukayo Saka
Saka, who scored at the Bernabeu in midweek, having also missed a penalty, has had a hand in 15 goals in his last 16 Premier League games against newly promoted sides (seven goals, eight assists), including three goals and five assists in his last six.
Since returning from injury, Saka has scored twice in six appearances in all competitions.
MATCH PREDICTION: ARSENAL WIN
Arsenal have won each of their last 10 Premier League games against teams starting the day in the relegation zone by an aggregate score of 30-2.
The Gunners have also won six of their last eight away games against Ipswich in all competitions. They are unbeaten in their last 14 league games against the Tractor Boys (W11 D3).
Ipswich have never won in 11 previous Premier League meetings with Arsenal (D2 L9). It is the most they have faced a side without ever winning in the competition, while the Gunners have only faced Portsmouth more often without ever losing (14).
The hosts have lost each of their six home Premier League games in 2025, as many defeats as they suffered in the league at Portman Road in 2023 and 2024 combined. It’s the Tractor Boys’ joint-longest home losing run, also losing six in a row between September and November 1963.
