New England Revolution v Philadelphia Union: Kohler would run through 'brick wall' for Mitrovic
The New England Revolution are looking to continue their fine form when they host the Philadelphia Union at Gillette Stadium on Saturday.
New England Revolution youngster Ethan Kohler says the team will give everything to get head coach Marko Mitrovic positive results ahead of facing the Philadelphia Union this weekend.
The Revs are currently on a six-game unbeaten streak in MLS (W5 D1), with their 1-0 win over Charlotte FC last weekend moving up to second in the Eastern Conference.
It has been a stellar campaign for the Revs so far in 2026, with Mitrovic seamlessly picking up the reins following Caleb Porter’s exit at the end of last season.
And Kohler was full of praise for Mitrovic, and says the team are willing to follow his hard-working example in order to maintain their current high level.
"He's a guy you want to run through a brick wall for," Kohler said.
"I think that's the best way to describe him. He would do the very same thing for you.
"He sees that we work so hard. We put everything into it. You see that he's staying late. He's doing everything. He's doing all his due diligence, and he puts his heart on the line as well. It makes it a lot easier for guys to really rally."
As for Philadelphia, they have steadied the ship somewhat after making a shaky start to their Supporters’ Shield defense.
They lost each of their first six MLS matches in 2026 but have since lost just one of their last five (W1 D3). The Union remain rooted to the foot of the East, however.
Philadelphia drew 0-0 with Nashville SC last time out, getting just their second clean sheet of the campaign, and head coach Bradley Carnell is confident they have momentum building.
"Every game is a chance for three points, and if you get on a run, and we've had a really good away form, that's something positive to build on," he said.
"We've got three out of four [games] away [before the World Cup break], and that's where the full focus is, and we're going to a New England team that's unbeaten [at home].
"So we're making sure we're preparing in the right way, while also knowing we're in a good way too. We feel that, and we just have to reward ourselves now."
PLAYERS TO WATCH
New England Revolution – Carles Gil
Carles Gil scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot at 96:18 for New England against Charlotte.
It was the latest game-winner for the Revs since at least 2010, 15 seconds later than a Gil penalty to beat Red Bull New York last March (96:03).
Philadelphia Union – Milan Iloski
Philadelphia have failed to score in three of their last four regular-season matches, including the last two in a row.
Milan Iloski was a driving force in their 0-0 draw with Nashville SC last time out, having a joint-team high four shots, worth 0.5 expected goals (xG), though he could only get one of those on target.
MATCH PREDICTION: DRAW
Philadelphia have won six straight matches against New England (including playoffs), outscoring the Revs 15-2 in those matches.
The Union have defeated New England 16 times in all competitions since the start of the 2018 season, the most of any MLS team against a single opponent in that time.
And after opening the season with six straight losses, Philadelphia have avoided defeat in four of their last five games (W1 D3 L1). Even with the recent results, the Union’s six points through 11 games are the fewest at this stage of a season by a reigning Supporters’ Shield winner.
However, New England have won their first five home matches of the season, including a 1-0 victory over Charlotte last time out. This equals the longest run of home wins to start a season in club history, as the Revs also won their first five home matches in 2021.
OPTA WIN PROBABILITY
New England Revolution – 39.2%
Draw – 26.6%
Philadelphia Union – 34.3%
