Schalke holds on in relegation thriller
Schalke scored a vital win over Stuttgart on Sunday (AEDT) to earn three massive points in what is becoming an in an increasingly tight battle for survival in the Bundesliga.
Just four points separates Schalke (16) from 14th placed Hertha Berlin (20), and Stuttgart is now one of three sides on 19 points. Bochum and Hoffenheim have the same tally and both also lost their matches as nerves begin to fray at the low end of the table.
Dominick Drexler and Marius Bulter were the goalscorers for Schalke against Stuttgart but Borna Sosa's strike midway through the second half meant the Gelsenkirchen crowd chewed through all its fingernails before the final whistle blew.
