Everton's transfer plans unaffected by Burnley compensation, claims Moyes
Everton have been ordered to pay Burnley over £35m in compensation over a previous financial breach.
David Moyes insists Everton's transfer plans remain unaffected despite Burnley winning a huge compensation claim.
Everton breached the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) in the 2021-22 season, albeit they were only charged in 2023.
The Toffees received a 10-point deduction in November 2023, which was subsequently reduced to six on appeal.
However, Burnley felt aggrieved that they were relegated in May 2022, at the end of the campaign in which Everton were found to have breached, and on Wednesday, it was confirmed the Clarets had won their case.
Everton have been ordered to pay Burnley £26m plus interest, equating to over £35m in total.
The Toffees expressed their dismay at the decision, with the club saying they were "surprised and angered by the decision".
Moyes, whose side failed to win any of their last seven Premier League matches and ultimately finished in 13th place despite battling for European qualification for much of the season, does not think Everton's transfer strategy for the summer will be impacted by the verdict, though.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Moyes said: "They told me that it wouldn't have any effect on it [spending in the transfer window].
"I was aware of this probably maybe four or five weeks ago, when it was happening, that this would be the case.
"Last season, we had a good season except the last month or so when we sort of blew up, and we were in a really, really strong position.
"So if it's anything, I hope it's a message that the Premier League is so difficult. If you don't do well, you could find yourself in trouble again. We don't want to be back in those situations that we were in the past.
"My understanding is that [the Friedkin Group, Everton's owners] were aware of this when they bought the club, that there was a possibility this would happen."
Only 22 players made an appearance for Everton in the Premier League this season; the joint-fewest for the Toffees in a single campaign in the competition (level with 1993-94 and 2004-05).
Everton brought in outfielders Jack Grealish, Thierno Barry, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Tyler Dibling, Carlos Alcaraz, Merlin Rohl and Adam Aznou last summer, while also adding Tyrique George on loan from Chelsea in January.
However, only Grealish, Barry and Dewsbury-Hall played regularly, with the other outfield signings all failing to play over 700 minutes in the Premier League.
Everton's seven-game winless run to end the season equalled Moyes' worst run with the Toffees in the Premier League, across his two spells in charge.
